“This contribution to the literature of English mountaineering and fell sports is one of the most amusing books that has come in our way for a long time. Mr. Benson’s humour is the outcome of sheer high spirits, and is so infectious that the reader finds it easy to forgive so cheery a companion even when he becomes, as sometimes happens, a trifle boisterous. The author is an enthusiastic cragsman who is imbued with the true spirit of the craft; and in his lightest-hearted mood he is always instructive when offering advice on the subject of climbing… Mr. Benson’s jovially written book [is] a certain remedy for an attack of the blues.” Baily’s Magazine of Sports and Pastimes (December 1902)
